Cottagecore Mermaid Craft

Cottagecore Mermaid Craft

This project is brought to you by: mermaids doing DIYs, tea parties with mermaids, Blue Willow china design, and Japanese Kintsugi.

Nothing says "seaside living" quite like finding seashells and listening to tales of mermaids. And on sunny summer days I like to imagine that mermaids are also enjoying arts and crafts - maybe with a found human paintbrush. I'm sure Ariel could spare one (or twenety! get it?).

Seashell art is best done with open salt air, sand between your toes, and your favorite drink - but if all you have is a mermaids heart then that works too.

So grab your shell and your acrylics and lets get to it!

You're going to need a shell... obviously. Whether you find one yourself or order one from the ocean of your dreams, it doesn't matter. But I suggest using one that is at least the size of your palm.

You're going to need a paint that sticks to the shell and dries quickly... AKA acrylics. They are by far the best and easiest type of paint to use for a project like this, although the blendability isn't as good as using something like oils.

For this next part you can take a pencil and sketch out or your design, or you can be free range and just go rouge (what I did) but this will require a lot of faith, trust, and pixie dust.

Once you have your design painted and you're happy with the design, start adding little details. I truly hated this little painting until I started adding the little detail dots. I loved the project but man the lack of blendability on the acrylic flowers had me screaming haha! Art is literally never as peaceful as I think it's going to be but I can't get enough of it!

Add gold to the edges and now you have the little mermaid cottage-core heirloom of your dreams! Or at least mine... seriously obsessed, can't wait to make 900 more.
